1983 specialized stumpjumper Mountain Bike Catalogue

IT'S NOT JUST A NEW BICYCLE, IT'S A WHOLE NEW SPORT. Specialized has taken the 26" balloon tire format and applied modern lightweight racing technology to create the Stumpjumper. The design of the Stumpjumper emphasizes rugged strength and responsive handling. The 68.5/70 degree frame geometry and raked forks give the Stumpjumper handling characteristics which are superior to traditional off-road bikes. A rugged cantilever braking system with heavy-duty motorcycle cables and Tommaselli levers provide sure stopping power under the heaviest of loads. Custom "dishless" 4X wheels with 14ga stainless steel spokes, Specialized sealed bearing hubs, and Araya alloy rims will stand up to years of rugged off-road use and abuse. A triple (26, 36, 46) cotterless crankset and a wide range 5-speed cluster (14, 17, 21, 26, 30) give the Stumpjumper the wide range of gearing necessary for the varied requirements of trail and street riding. The Stumpjumper has a complete set of braze-ans; no clamps are required. The braze-on assembly includes: front and rear dropout eyelets, custom seatstay rack mounts, all cable guides, and two water bottle mounts, and threaded mounts for fenders.
