The frameset in a Mountain Bike is of the utmost importance. The 1986 Diamond Back Apex uses the 100% chromoly Tange mountain tube set with double butted main tubes. Sometimes strength means overkill, and the result is dead performance. But the Apex is alive and kicking with the perfect marriage of methods, materials and geometry. The Apex utilizes the best drive train available, full top of the line Shimano Deore XT componentry. The braking is provided by rear Suntour Power Cam and front Shimano cantilevers for the perfect combination of front to rear stopping power with Dia Compe 282 deluxe alloy mountain levers.
