Our mountain bike frames are designed and built with four criteria in mind They must be light, efficient, fast and rugged. A scant 3.6 lbs., they weigh less than all but one or two of the ultra-expensive titanium frames. Their stiff, large diameter aluminum tubing won't flex under the force of your pedaling, channeling more of your energy into forward motion. Their geometry emphasizes quick, responsive handling, and they're hand-built and equipped to thrive under the harsh demands of hard-core riding.
For 1991, we've added several subtle refinements. To improve tire clearance and avoid mud build-up, we've gone to oval "Mudcutter" chainstays. (We also think they look sleeker than our old crimped chainstays.) For more efficient braking, we've eliminated a long section of rear brake cable housing by switching from plastic top tube cable guides to welded cable stops, and we've off-set them from the top of the top tube for smoother routing In equipping our '91 models we've literally combed the globe to come up with the hottest components. Look for bikes with everything from Ritchey brake levers and cranksets to the trick Ringle Cam-twist seatpost quick release.
Several models also feature our "beefy", super-light Pepperoni fork with vibration-dampening aluminum blades. And our bikes feature some of the latest technological innovations from Grip Shift, Shimano and Sun Tour.
Whether you choose one of our level top tube bikes or the high bottom bracket/sloping top tube "Beast of the East" (with nimble handling perfect for trails, trials and technical riding), your Cannondale frame will also feature our innovative replaceable rear derailleur hanger. Get a branch jammed between your chain and derailleur and the inexpensive and easily replaceable hanger will snap off before permanent damage can occur to your frame.
